At least seven BJP Karyakartas sustained injuries after alleged Tipra Motha-backed goons launched an attack on a Mann Ki Baat program on Sunday at Asaram Bari under Khowai district.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers reportedly used sharp weapons, lathis, and bricks during the assault. Several vehicles, including bikes and cars, were vandalised in the violence.

Confirming the incident, BJP General Secretary Bipin Debbarma said the program was being held at Booth No. 30 when around 100 youths, allegedly affiliated with the Tipra Motha Party, launched a sudden and unprovoked attack.

“Over 50 Tipra Motha goons disrupted the program, vandalized my vehicle, and even attacked the house owner who hosted the event. Around 15 bikes and several other vehicles were also damaged,” alleged Debbarma.

He further claimed that seven BJP workers suffered serious injuries after being hit by bottles and bricks.

“They targeted the head, mouth, and chest areas. The attackers brought daos, lathis, rods, and other weapons with the intent to cause harm,” he added.

Reacting to the incident, BJP MLA from Kalyanpur, Pinaki Das Chowdhury, strongly condemned the alleged attack by Tipra Motha and said legal action would follow. “The law will take its own course,” he stated.

However, Tipra Motha Party supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma refuted the allegations. Speaking to this publication, he claimed that no Tipra Motha workers were involved in the attack.

“This is an old political feud. The BJP Mandal President was once a CPIM worker, and this appears to be a fallout of longstanding tensions between him and his former party. Tipra Motha has no involvement,” Pradyot said.
