In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Tripura Police, seized 9,500 Yaba tablets worth approximately Rs 38 lakh in Kanchanpur area of North Tripura district.
The joint operation was conducted on August 31, 2026, based on specific intelligence inputs received from Assam Rifles sources.
During the operation, the security forces apprehended one person allegedly involved in the transportation of the contraband. A TVS Apache motorcycle, suspected to have been used for carrying the Yaba tablets, was also seized.
The recovered narcotics, along with the apprehended individual and the seized motorcycle, were subsequently handed over to Kanchanpur Police for further investigation and necessary legal proceedings.
The seizure is being seen as another significant success in the ongoing efforts of Assam Rifles and other security agencies to curb the trafficking and illegal movement of narcotic substances across the Northeast.
Authorities have continued to intensify surveillance and joint operations in vulnerable areas to prevent the smuggling of drugs and disrupt narcotics networks operating in the region.
