In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Customs Department, recovered a massive consignment of narcotics from the Tuchandrai Bazar area in Khowai district, Tripura, on July 21.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint team intercepted an Ashok Leyland truck bearing registration number TR‑01‑AR‑1754. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 1,40,000 Yaba tablets, with an estimated value of approximately Rs 14 crore in the international market.
The driver of the truck was apprehended on the spot.
Both the seized narcotics and the arrested individual have been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and legal action.
Officials stated that the operation underscores the Assam Rifles' continued commitment to curbing illegal drug trafficking in the region.
“Assam Rifles, in close coordination with other enforcement agencies, will continue its relentless efforts to ensure peace and security in the Northeast,” a spokesperson said.
The seizure highlights the growing challenges of drug smuggling along the border areas of Tripura and the proactive role of security forces in countering the menace.
