Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder has urged traders who have allegedly encroached on government land in the city to voluntarily vacate the occupied spaces, warning that illegal occupation will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
On Saturday, during an inspection of the area near Jackson Gate, the Mayor stated that several shopkeepers had been running businesses for a long time on government land without authorization. Notices had earlier been issued to the concerned traders, instructing them to clear the encroached areas within a specified timeframe. However, many reportedly failed to comply with the directive.
As a result, the Municipal Corporation has launched an eviction drive to free the encroached land. Shops that have not yet been removed voluntarily are being dismantled as part of the ongoing operation.
The Mayor further said that such drives will continue throughout the year to maintain urban discipline and ensure smooth traffic movement in the city. He also warned street vendors that any shop or stall left on the roads after 11 PM will be removed by authorities.
At the same time, the Municipal Corporation has assured that rehabilitation arrangements have been made for the evicted traders, allowing them to continue their businesses from designated locations.
