The West Tripura District Administration has rolled out a detailed schedule of events to commemorate the 79th Independence Day, with a range of programs planned across Agartala from August 13 to 15.
According to the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, the celebrations will begin on August 13 with the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative. As part of this nationwide campaign, the national flag will be hoisted at every household after sunrise.
On August 14, a city-wide cleanliness drive under the Swachhata Abhiyan will be conducted at prominent locations including Assam Rifles Maidan, the statue premises near the Circuit House, Gandhi Ghat, and Shaheed Smriti Soudh. Government offices, educational institutions, and other establishments will also actively participate in the campaign.
Later that evening, an open cross-country running competition will be held for both men and women, starting from Umakanta Academy at 6 PM.
The main celebration on August 15 will begin early in the morning. A student-led procession will be held at 5 AM, followed by the hoisting of the national flag at 7 AM across all government offices, schools, colleges, Anganwadi centers, municipal bodies, gram panchayats, and village council offices.
Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath will hoist the Tricolour at the Secretariat premises at 7 AM.
Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu will pay floral tributes at various iconic sites, including:
Mahatma Gandhi's statue near the Circuit House at 8 AM,
Gandhi Altar at Gandhi Ghat at 8:15 AM,
Shaheed Smriti Soudh at Albert Ekka Park, Lichubagan at 8:35 AM.
The ceremonial highlight will take place at Assam Rifles Maidan, where Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha will hoist the national flag at 9:10 AM. He will then inspect the ceremonial parade and felicitate the march past participants. The event will be followed by cultural performances by school students.
In the evening, a cultural program will be held at Agartala Town Hall at 5 PM, followed by the traditional ‘At Home’ reception hosted at Raj Bhavan at 6 PM.
