A delegation of the 6th State Finance Commission visited South Tripura district today as part of its ongoing review of development initiatives across the state.

On this occasion, a high-level meeting was convened at the conference hall of the Belonia Circuit House.

The meeting was chaired by Commission Chairman and Secretary of the Rural Development Department, Abhishek Singh. 

Among the key attendees were Chairman of South Tripura Zilla Parishad Dipak Dutta, District Magistrate Md. Sajjad P, Member Secretary of the Commission Akinchan Sarkar, Director of Urban Development Department Megha Jain, Director of Panchayat Department Prasun De, Chairpersons of Bilonia and Shantirbazar Municipal Council, Sakram Nagar Panchayat, Block Advisory Committees, Standing Committees of Zilla Parishad, and representatives from various Panchayat and Village Committees.

During the meeting, public representatives held detailed discussions on a wide range of issues, including government schemes, budget allocation, and the implementation of various developmental projects aimed at the overall progress of the district. Key infrastructural needs such as roads, drinking water facilities, and construction of paved drains in the three urban areas of the district were also discussed. Emphasis was laid on enhancing the own source revenue of all panchayats within South Tripura.

Speaking to the media, Commission Chairman Abhishek Singh said the purpose of the meeting was to formulate a roadmap for the efficient utilization of state-collected taxes for rural and urban development over the next five years. He noted that valuable suggestions from public representatives were taken into account during the deliberations.

South Tripura Zilla Parishad Chairman Deepak Dutta also submitted a memorandum to the Commission, listing key demands and proposals aimed at accelerating the district’s development.
