44 kg ganja worth Rs 22 lakh recovered during patrol in Tripura Bordering village

Tripura Police recovered around 44 kg of dry ganja from the Paharpur border road area under Sonamura Police Station during a routine patrolling operation, police said on Sunday.

According to Sonamura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das, a police team was conducting patrols at different locations along the Paharpur border road when they spotted a large quantity of suspected ganja lying unattended.

The personnel secured the contraband and seized it after completing the required legal formalities. The seized ganja was subsequently recorded as unclaimed property, police said.

The approximate market value of the recovered contraband has been estimated at Rs 22 lakh.

Following the seizure, Sonamura Police Station has initiated an investigation to trace those responsible for transporting and abandoning the ganja in the area. Police are also examining the circumstances surrounding the recovery and gathering information about the possible ownership of the seized contraband.

No arrest has been reported in connection with the seizure so far.
