A tragic incident struck the Tepania area of Udaipur on Tuesday afternoon when a 10-year-old boy drowned while bathing in a pond with friends.
The deceased has been identified as Rajdip Debnath. According to local sources, Rajdip went to bathe in the pond along with two of his friends.
Moments later, the others noticed that he had gone missing. Shortly after, they saw Rajdip floating on the water.
Hearing their cries for help, locals rushed to the spot and pulled him out of the pond. He was immediately taken to Gomati District Hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
The news of the boy’s death plunged his family and neighbors into deep grief.
His body has been sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination, after which it will be handed over to his family.
The incident has cast a pall of mourning over the entire locality.
