In a remarkable story of self-reliance and determination, two brothers from the Kalachhara area under Dharmanagar subdivision have emerged as inspiring examples of rural entrepreneurship. Nilotpal Sinha and his brother Gautam Sinha have successfully built a profitable livelihood through mushroom cultivation, moving away from the conventional pursuit of government jobs.

Residents of South Huruwa Ward No. 1, the Sinha brothers began their journey in mushroom farming in 2013, driven purely by personal interest and curiosity. What started on a small experimental scale gradually evolved into a structured and thriving agribusiness through years of dedication, learning, and hard work.

Today, they operate a well-equipped mushroom production unit with its own laboratory facilities, where they manage the entire process—from spawn (seed) production to cultivation and marketing. Their enterprise primarily focuses on oyster and milky mushroom varieties, carefully selected based on seasonal humidity and market demand.

According to Nilotpal Sinha, their farm now generates an annual income of approximately ₹4–5 lakh, enabling them to lead a stable and comfortable life while meeting family responsibilities. Their success has also been supported by financial assistance of ₹1 lakh under the MIDH (Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture) scheme from the horticulture department.

Sharing his message for the younger generation, Nilotpal emphasized the growing limitations of government job opportunities and encouraged youth to explore alternative income sources. He described mushroom farming as a low-cost, high-return venture with strong market demand, especially in regions like Tripura and neighboring districts, where production is still limited compared to consumption.

Their success story has created a strong local impact in Dharmanagar, inspiring many unemployed youth to consider agriculture-based entrepreneurship. More than just a personal achievement, the Sinha brothers’ journey is now seen as a model of rural innovation and self-sufficiency, offering a new direction for the youth of North Tripura.
