Tripura has positioned itself as a key player in India’s organic agriculture landscape, having developed over 25,000 hectares of certified organic farmland and exported 1,332 metric tons of organic produce — including Queen Pineapple, Bird’s Eye Chilli, ginger, turmeric, and aromatic rice — over the past three years.
Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath shared these achievements during the state’s first-ever Organic Buyer-Seller Conference, held at Hotel Polo Towers in Agartala on Wednesday.
“The world today is not just demanding food — it demands food that is safe, chemical-free, and traceable,” said Nath. “Organic agriculture is not a trend; it’s a sustainable and future-ready solution to tackle global health, environmental, and soil-related challenges. Tripura is not merely adopting organic farming — we are creating a complete ecosystem from farm to fork.”
The Minister informed that the state has formed 53 certified organic Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) to strengthen grassroots participation and promote the cultivation of high-value crops, including GI-tagged Queen Pineapple, Kew Pineapple, Bird’s Eye Chilli, Black Rice (Maimi Hungar), Aromatic Rice (Harinarayan, Kalikhasa), scented lemon, turmeric, ginger, and more.
Highlighting the unique features of some of these products, Nath said Queen Pineapple — known for its natural sweetness and low acidity — is ideal for premium juice and dessert production. Bird’s Eye Chilli, rich in capsaicin, offers not only culinary distinction but also health benefits such as metabolism enhancement and improved digestion.
He further stated that Tripura’s organic products have reached key domestic markets such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Guwahati, and have also been exported to international destinations including Oman, Dubai, and Dhaka. The export figures over the last three years include 666 MT of pineapple, 574 MT of ginger, 52 MT of turmeric, 33 MT of aromatic rice, and 7 MT of Bird’s Eye Chilli.
“This Buyer-Seller Meet is about more than just trade — it’s about building trust, transparency, and long-term partnerships,” said Nath. “Tripura may be a small state, but our ambition is large. I invite stakeholders to visit our farms and witness the dedication of our farmers firsthand.”
“Let’s unite and make Organic Tripura a driving force in Organic India,” he concluded.
