Dilip Ghosh denies rumours of quitting BJP, dismisses speculation of forming new party

Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday categorically denied rumours that he is planning to quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and float a new political outfit in West Bengal.

Reacting to media reports suggesting a possible split, Ghosh said, “There is no question of me leaving the BJP. I have played a significant role in expanding the party’s base in West Bengal. The BJP’s current strength in the state is the result of years of sustained struggle. I have never even thought of launching a new party.”

“The BJP is now in a position to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Bengal. There is absolutely no need for any new political outfit,” he added.

Ghosh, who earlier represented the Medinipur Lok Sabha seat and served as the state unit president, has been notably absent from key party events in recent times.

He was missing from two major BJP rallies held in West Bengal — one addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Alipurduar and another by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Kolkata.

Speculation about his strained ties with the state BJP leadership intensified after he attended the inauguration of the Lord Jagannath Temple in Digha, East Midnapore, along with his wife. His amiable interaction with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the event — widely circulated through viral videos — drew sharp criticism from sections of BJP supporters on social media.
