The Tripura Police has appointed West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak to head the investigation into the death of Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar, as per an official order issued by the Police Headquarters.

The probe relates to West Agartala Police Station Unnatural Death (UD) Case No. 2026WAG045, registered on July 20 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

According to the order, SP Namit Pathak will lead the investigation with assistance from Additional SP (Urban), West Tripura, Dhruba Nath, and Sub-Inspector Subhojit Deb, the current Investigating Officer of the case.

The order also empowers the SP to induct officers from the Tripura Police Crime Branch or any other police unit whenever necessary. Technical support may also be sought from the Cyber Crime Unit of the Crime Branch to aid the investigation.

Further, the investigating team has been instructed to submit weekly progress reports to the Inspector General of Police (Law & Order), who will review the updates and place them before the Director General of Police.

The investigation is underway into the death of DGP Anurag Dhankar, who was found dead at the State Police Headquarters in Agartala on July 20. The incident has drawn widespread attention across the state, with police continuing to examine all aspects of the case.
