Lok Sabha MP and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has called for stronger international cooperation to tackle the growing threat of terrorism, stressing that a collective global response is essential to protect international peace and security.
Addressing the Sixth Committee of the 81st United Nations General Assembly during the discussion on “Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism,” Deb presented India’s national statement and reiterated the country’s stated policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism.
Deb underlined the need for coordinated international measures targeting terrorist organisations, their funding channels and the networks that facilitate their operations. He also stressed that countries providing safe havens or other forms of support to terrorist groups must be held accountable.
Referring to India’s position at the international level, Deb said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the country has consistently advocated firm and decisive action against terrorism.
He pointed out that no individual nation can effectively confront international terrorism on its own. According to him, sustained cooperation among countries is necessary to dismantle terrorist networks, choke off their financial resources and prevent terrorists from receiving shelter or logistical support.
Deb further said that India remains committed to promoting a peaceful, secure and rules-based international order. He called for greater coordination among nations and stronger international mechanisms to prevent and eliminate terrorism.
The Tripura MP emphasised that collective action and international cooperation would remain crucial to safeguarding global peace and security and addressing the challenges posed by terrorism.
