Tripura Congress on Wednesday organised a massive protest rally in Agartala, condemning the alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including NEET and RE-NEET, and the police action against students and youth during demonstrations over the issue.
The party demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express regret over the situation. Congress leaders alleged that repeated question paper leaks and examination-related frauds have damaged the future of lakhs of students across the country.
Addressing the rally, former minister and Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman said that the Congress, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, has launched a nationwide movement against the deteriorating condition of the education system.
“Students raising their voices against injustice were met with police action instead of solutions. The government must answer why the future of students is being compromised due to repeated examination irregularities,” Roy Barman said.
He alleged that the police response to student protests reflected the government’s failure to address genuine concerns. He also criticised the handling of opposition leaders during previous demonstrations.
Roy Barman said that the Congress would continue to stand with students and young people in their fight for a transparent and accountable education system.
The party placed three major demands — the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a detailed discussion in Parliament on reforms in the education system, and an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Congress also demanded withdrawal of cases filed against protesting students and warned that the agitation would continue until the demands were addressed.
