The Sadar District Congress Committee on Monday organized a demonstration outside the office of the state power utility in Agartala, protesting what it described as growing difficulties faced by electricity consumers across the state.

During the protest, party leaders voiced concerns over frequent complaints regarding power supply, the implementation of smart meters, and the recent increase in electricity charges. According to the protesters, many consumers have expressed dissatisfaction over higher electricity expenses following the installation of smart meters.

The Congress leaders urged the government to take immediate steps to improve the quality of electricity services and ensure uninterrupted power supply. They also demanded a rollback of the increased tariffs, alleging that the hike has added to the financial burden of common people.

Speaking at the programme, Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty criticized the state's power management policies and called for greater accountability within the Electricity Department. He stressed the need for transparency in administrative functioning and sought an impartial inquiry into allegations of irregularities in the department.

The demonstration drew the participation of party workers and supporters, who raised slogans in support of consumer rights and better public services. The protest concluded peacefully amid a visible political atmosphere in the area.
