The Tripura Pradesh BJP on Monday staged a protest rally and demonstration outside Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala over Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s alleged objectionable remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late father. BJP leaders used the occasion to criticise the Congress and the CPI(M), accusing them of promoting divisive politics and attempting to destabilise the country.
Addressing the protesters, BJP general secretary Bhagaban Das alleged that the statements made by opposition leaders reflected their political frustration amid their struggle to regain public confidence. He called upon party workers to remain alert against what he described as attempts to disturb peace and weaken national unity.
Das claimed that certain political forces were working to undermine the country’s cultural heritage, economic progress and stability. He also alleged that several opposition parties had united primarily to oppose the BJP-led government rather than offer a common political vision.
Taking aim at the Congress-Left understanding, the BJP leader referred to the Aam Aadmi Party and protests held in Delhi. He alleged that some protesters were drawing inspiration from political developments in Bangladesh and advocating activities that could create instability in India.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Das credited their leadership with strengthening national stability and development. He accused opposition parties of seeking to create political unrest instead of winning public support through the democratic process.
Commenting on Kharge’s alleged remarks, Das said political criticism should remain within reasonable limits and should not target the families of political leaders. He also criticised Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, maintaining that political disagreements should not lead to personal attacks.
The BJP general secretary also questioned the objectives of the Congress’s Bharat Jodo campaign, alleging that the opposition parties were engaging in divisive politics. He further accused the Congress and the CPI(M) of seeking to regain power without securing sufficient electoral support.
Urging BJP workers to intensify their grassroots outreach, Das asked them to visit households and explain the party’s policies and positions to the public. He said national unity, cultural heritage and stability would continue to be central to the BJP’s political agenda.
Among those present at the demonstration were MLA and Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, Sadar (Urban) district BJP president Asim Bhattacharya, presidents of seven mandal committees, and a large number of party workers and supporters.
The programme concluded with BJP leaders reiterating their protest against Kharge’s alleged remarks and launching further criticism of the Congress and Left parties.
