The Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, organized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony for the establishment of three new Dr. Ambedkar Chairs at Mumbai University, Jaipur National University, and GB Pant University of Technical and Agriculture Sciences. The event took place today at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC), New Delhi.
The ceremony was presided over by the Hon’ble Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, and attended by Shri Amit Yadav, Secretary of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, senior ministry officials, representatives from the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, and Vice Chancellors of the participating universities.
In his address, Dr. Kumar lauded the ongoing efforts of the Foundation in promoting the vision and ideology of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar through academic and research initiatives. He emphasized that education, social awareness, and institutional collaboration are crucial for building an equitable and inclusive society. The Minister expressed confidence that the new Chairs would contribute significantly to policy-oriented research, public awareness, and academic discourse on social justice, equality, empowerment of marginalized communities, and constitutional values.
Secretary Amit Yadav highlighted the vital role of universities in fostering multidisciplinary research on Dr. Ambedkar’s philosophy and its relevance to contemporary social and legal challenges. He commended the collaborative efforts between the Foundation and universities in advancing ‘Ambedkarite’ thought.
With the signing of these MoUs, the number of operational Dr. Ambedkar Chairs has increased to 28, strengthening the Foundation’s network of academic engagement across the country. Vice Chancellors of the participating universities expressed their gratitude and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the objectives of the scheme through quality research and outreach activities.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Director of the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, who extended appreciation to the Minister, Secretary, ministry officials, and university representatives for their support and participation.
The Dr. Ambedkar Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to expanding this initiative, aiming to make academic institutions across India centers of excellence for research, policy development, and public education inspired by Dr. Ambedkar’s life and philosophy.
