A mysterious incident in South Tripura's West Muhuripur village under Shantirbazar subdivision has left three members of a family dead, prompting an intensive police investigation.

The deceased were identified as Shankar Chakraborty (52), his wife Chhabi Chakraborty (40), and their son Krishna Chakraborty (30). 

According to police, Shankar and Chhabi were found with severe injuries inside their residence, while Krishna was found hanging in the same house.

Following the incident, senior officers from Baikhora and Belonia police stations, along with the Additional Superintendent of Police (South Tripura), reached the spot. 

A forensic team also conducted a detailed examination of the house and collected evidence.

The incident came to light after the couple's younger son, Mithun Chakraborty, returned home on Friday afternoon. 

He told police that his elder brother Krishna, who worked in a private company, had come home early and asked him to visit a relative's house to collect a key. When Mithun returned, he found the house locked from inside. After receiving no response despite repeated calls, he looked through a window and noticed Krishna hanging. Upon entering the house, he discovered his parents lying motionless inside.

During preliminary questioning, Mithun claimed that Krishna had recently entered into a court marriage with a woman of his choice. While their family had accepted the relationship, he alleged that the bride's relatives opposed the marriage and suggested that they could be linked to the deaths.

Police, however, have refrained from giving credence to any theory at this stage. Officials said the investigation remains at an early stage and every possible angle is being examined. Investigators are also verifying statements made by family members and witnesses after noticing certain inconsistencies during the initial inquiry. The discovery of Krishna's body with his hands reportedly tied has further complicated the investigation.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and sequence of deaths. No arrests or detentions have been made so far, and police said they will rely on forensic findings, medical reports, and other evidence before reaching any conclusion on whether the incident was a case of homicide, suicide, or another sequence of events.
