Tension has intensified over the control of Ambassa Motor Stand, with a long-standing dispute between two groups of the Bus and Jeep Drivers’ Association. Allegations have surfaced that the newly formed committees of the BMS and the Drivers’ Association have been threatening and allegedly humiliating members of the old committee.

According to the protesters, District Secretary of the Bus and Jeep Drivers’ Association, Deepak Goswami, has been running the motor stand according to his own decisions and operating it with the help of outsiders. They alleged that vehicles are being kept idle for months without valid reasons, causing severe hardship to drivers.

General Secretary of the Bus and Jeep Drivers’ Association, Santosh Dey, levelled several allegations against Deepak Goswami. Protesting these issues, a group of drivers started a sit-in demonstration at Ambassa Motor Stand on Wednesday morning. The protesters also locked the office room of the Bus and Jeep Drivers’ Association.

Following the incident, police from Ambassa Police Station rushed to the spot. The protesters claimed that the newly formed committee was illegal as per the state committee’s instructions. They alleged that a seven-day notice had been issued by the state committee seeking clarification, but the matter was ignored and Deepak Goswami was continuing with a “dictatorial approach.”

After prolonged protests, Deepak Goswami arrived at the motor stand. Ambassa Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nirupan Dutta also reached the spot and held discussions with both sides along with the Officer-in-Charge of Ambassa Police Station.

The SDPO said that a dispute had arisen among drivers at Ambassa Motor Stand. After receiving information, police reached the spot and spoke with representatives of both groups. Adequate security arrangements were made to prevent any untoward incident. Police and TSR personnel were deployed inside and outside the motor stand to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, District Committee Secretary Narayan Debnath rejected the allegations and said that the present committee has been approved by the state committee. He questioned the protesters to provide proper documents proving that the current committee is illegal. Debnath claimed that the committee possesses valid documents supporting its legitimacy.

The ongoing dispute has created inconvenience not only for drivers but also for passengers, who are facing difficulties due to the unrest at the motor stand. The situation remains tense as both sides continue to stand firm on their demands.
