Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch Urban Development Year 2025 in Gandhinagar on Tuesday, marking two decades of Gujarat’s planned and sustainable urban transformation.
The event, scheduled for 11 a.m., will unveil the next phase of Gujarat’s urban strategy, reinforcing the state's standing as a national leader in urban planning, clean energy, and infrastructure innovation.
PM Modi is expected to address the gathering, which will include senior state officials, urban planners, and sectoral stakeholders.
As part of the programme, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for a series of key projects in urban development, healthcare, and water supply. A major highlight of the event will be the launch of the State Clean Air Programme, a comprehensive initiative to combat air pollution through a multi-sectoral approach, reaffirming Gujarat’s commitment to sustainable urban living.
In a significant boost to the Make in India initiative and India’s railway infrastructure, PM Modi will also inaugurate Indian Railways’ state-of-the-art Locomotive Manufacturing Plant in Dahod. The facility will produce powerful 9,000 HP electric locomotives for both domestic use and export. The Prime Minister will flag off the first locomotive manufactured at the plant, a move expected to enhance freight capacity and operational efficiency of Indian Railways.
Additionally, over 22,000 housing units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) will be allotted to beneficiaries. PM Modi will also release Rs 3,300 crore in funds to urban local bodies under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, supporting urban infrastructure projects across the state.
This visit highlights Gujarat’s integrated approach to urban development and aligns with the national vision of building world-class infrastructure and promoting green mobility solutions.
A day earlier, the Prime Minister led a roadshow in Bhuj, where he reiterated India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. Citing Operation Sindoor, he warned that those who threaten India’s sovereignty will face decisive consequences.
