A tragic road accident early Wednesday morning claimed four lives and left three others critically injured after a speeding Thar SUV collided with three motorcycles on National Highway 52 near Chomu in Jaipur district, Rajasthan.
The victims, all from the same family, were returning home after offering prayers at the Khatushyam temple in Sikar district when the mishap occurred around 3 a.m. near the Rampura culvert.
According to Chomu Police Station in-charge Pradeep Sharma, “A Thar moving at high speed lost control and rammed into three motorcycles ahead of it. One person died on the spot, while six others sustained serious injuries.”
The impact was so severe that the motorcycles were completely crushed under the vehicle. Local residents rushed to the scene and alerted the police.
All the injured were initially taken to Chomu Government Hospital and later referred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur for advanced treatment. However, three of them, including a woman, succumbed to their injuries en route, raising the death toll to four.
Police said the deceased were identified as Virendra Srivastava (55) and his son Sunil Srivastava (50), both originally from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, and residing in Vaidyaji Ka Chowraha, Jaipur; Lucky Srivastava (30), son of Indraprakash Srivastava, and his wife Shweta Srivastava (26), both residents of Brajwadi Colony, Jaipur.
The injured have been identified as Avinash (30), son of Vijay Bahadur; his three-year-old son Raunak; and Sangeeta, wife of Virendra Singh—all residents of Vaidyaji Ka Chowraha, Jaipur.
Doctors at SMS Hospital have described the condition of all three injured as critical.
Police have seized the Thar and launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest overspeeding and reckless driving as the likely causes of the crash.
