A 65-year-old woman lost her life after being hit by a speeding motorcycle in a suspected hit-and-run accident at Kalamkhet Murapara under Ward No. 6 of Telkajla Gram Panchayat in the Melaghar police station area. The motorcyclist fled the scene immediately after the accident.

According to local sources, the deceased, identified as Chandraban Bibi (65), was returning home after finishing some errands at a nearby shop. While she was crossing the road, a motorcycle speeding from behind rammed into her, throwing her onto the road.

Hearing the loud impact, local residents rushed to the spot and found the elderly woman lying critically injured. She was immediately taken to Melaghar Hospital. As her condition deteriorated, doctors referred her to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala. However, upon arrival, doctors declared her brought dead.

After receiving information about the incident, Melaghar Police reached the accident site and launched an investigation. Police are making efforts to identify and trace the absconding motorcyclist.

Residents alleged that ever since the road was recently renovated, speeding by motorcycles and other vehicles has become a common occurrence, posing a serious threat to pedestrians. They urged the administration to implement strict measures to curb overspeeding and prevent such tragic accidents.

The sudden death of Chandraban Bibi has cast a pall of gloom over Telkajla village, with grieving family members and residents mourning the loss of the elderly woman.
