Heavy rains have battered several parts of Telangana under the influence of Severe Cyclone Montha, which made landfall near Narsapur on the Andhra Pradesh coast.
The downpour has inundated low-lying areas and disrupted road transport in multiple districts. Authorities in Khammam, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Suryapet, and other regions have declared a holiday for educational institutions as a precautionary measure.
Several villages in Nagarkurnool district, bordering Andhra Pradesh, were cut off after overflowing streams and rivulets submerged roads. In Nalgonda district, rainwater entered an electricity sub-station at Pulicherla village, causing power outages in parts of Peddapur mandal since Tuesday night.
In Peddapalli district, heavy rainfall in Sultanabad mandal damaged paddy stocks at a local agricultural market.
According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, Uppununthala in Nagarkurnool district recorded the highest rainfall of 20.8 cm in the past 24 hours, followed by Amrabad (19.7 cm). Other notable figures include Theldevarapally in Nalgonda (18.5 cm), Veltur (18.3 cm), Ainole (17.8 cm), Padra (16.28 cm), Achampet (15.9 cm), and Yerraram (15.15 cm). Nearly 30 locations recorded rainfall exceeding 10 cm.
Hyderabad too has been witnessing moderate to heavy rainfall since Tuesday night, leading to waterlogging and traffic snarls during the Wednesday morning rush hour.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers, with occasional intense spells accompanied by gusty winds (30–40 kmph) in parts of Hyderabad. Mist and hazy conditions are also likely during early morning and night hours.
An orange alert has been issued for several districts, including Bhadradri Kothagudem, Hanamkonda, Hyderabad, Jangaon, Jogulamba Gadwal, Khammam, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Mahabubabad, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Narayanpet, Rangareddy, Suryapet, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy, Warangal, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, as the state continues to experience the impact of Cyclone Montha.
