BJP accuses Mamata of misleading public over school job cancellations

Senior BJP leaders in West Bengal on Saturday alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is attempting to mislead the public over the Supreme Court's recent order cancelling 25,753 school jobs in the state, by shifting blame onto others instead of addressing the core issue.

They further accused Banerjee of employing a similar strategy during last year’s brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, claiming she deflected responsibility then as well.

"The real question Mamata Banerjee must answer is why her government failed to differentiate between those who got jobs through bribes and those who were rightfully selected," said Dilip Ghosh, former BJP national vice-president and ex-Lok Sabha MP. "She knows that the public is turning against her after the R.G. Kar incident and now the mass job cancellations. That’s why she’s trying to blur the facts and blame others."

Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari echoed the sentiment, stating that the Trinamool-led government intentionally did not distinguish between fraudulent and legitimate appointments. “If they had, it would have exposed how TMC leaders allegedly took money to fix jobs. Now that the High Court and the Supreme Court have intervened, Mamata Banerjee is confused and resorting to confusing the public with misleading claims,” Adhikari said.

In response, Trinamool Congress leaders argued that the BJP is politicising the matter instead of empathising with those facing job losses. They believe the people of Bengal will once again reject the BJP at the polls, as they have done in past elections.

The issue comes ahead of the critical West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled for next year.
