Tension gripped the Veluarcher area under Tripura's Sepahijala District on Monday morning after local residents staged a road blockade in protest against a bomb attack that occurred during the TTAADC elections.
According to locals, unidentified miscreants hurled bombs outside a polling station near Bardhefa Jaljala Senior Basic School on Sunday during voting hours. The incident left at least two people injured, one of whom remains in critical condition.
Alleging police inaction, angry residents took to the streets on Monday, blocking roads and disrupting vehicular movement in the area. The blockade caused severe inconvenience to commuters and daily travelers.
Protesters demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the attack and called for strict legal action against the culprits. They also expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as inadequate police response following the incident.
Upon receiving information, senior police and administrative officials rushed to the spot and engaged in discussions with the demonstrators to restore normalcy. Additional security forces have been deployed in the area to prevent any further untoward incidents.
Authorities are continuing efforts to control the situation and ensure peace, while investigations into the bombing incident are underway.
